Prague’s lighthouse is shining in the world of sport

Today finished the second WTA tennis tournament at the TK SPARTA Prague, Czech Republic, during 3 weeks period. Both of the tournaments took place in difficult times when the sporting world has been waking up and restarting again after a break due to the worldwide pandemic.

It is my pleasure that I can be here, after 2 weeks, and thanks once again to all players and all participants of the tournament, not just for the usual activities that directors would normally thank. This time, I would like to express my special thanks to all the organisers, and especially the players, for their patients and discipline with which they all tolerated all the unusual and very strict rules and restrictions. We are a prove that personal responsibility, strict organisation and exceptional discipline of all participants is a way that could lead us to the safe restart of a sporting life and to the opportunity to be able to organise big sport events, again with a smile.

Tournament TK Sparta Prague Open 2020 WTA 125 was the biggest tennis event that was ever held in the Czech Republic. It was our biggest pleasure to make this tournament, that replaced qualification of US Open Championships, come alive. I wish that all the future tournaments will be held in a way that we were always used to, and that we will come together once again in 2021 here in Prague, just without the necessity of wearing face masks.

I wish to all the players successful and safe continuation of the season, and I am proud that Prague tournaments could help to light the pathway of the returning world sport into a traditional format. When I was writing about the lighting house 2 weeks ago, that is shining modestly in the sea, I wished that they could become a part of even stronger stream of the bright lights. Therefore, we can safely say that even after this tournament our desires may be coming true.

So once again, thanks to all the people that made the tournament happen, we send our hello to New York and we wish good luck, not only for today.

David Trunda, tournament director
